Volunteer for Basketball Club for adults with learning disabilities
What are we looking for?
We are looking for people who love basketball and who can support others to share that passion. We are looking for someone with good communication skills, patience, and a great sense of humour.
This is a good opportunity for anyone who is thinking of doing sports studies, coaching or teaching sport, or for people who have an interest in disability sport.
Our current volunteer has been with the club for three years and is leaving reluctantly, to go to university.
About the opportunity
Our Club – EASTLEIGH HOT SHOTS is for people with learning disabilities of different ages and abilities. We have a charismatic coach who has shown members that basketball is a great sport for them and we are looking for someone who will work alongside our coach and encourage people to participate as fully as they are able.
Members learn and practice skills that help to improve and maintain their mobility and flexibility as well as enjoying the sport and supporting each other. Sessions are dedicated to drills, exercises and a short game.

Grantham Green Growers
...to help us maintain the ornamental shrubs at Grantham Green. Members of Eastleigh Borough & Romsey MENCAP society will be maintaining the shrubs throughout the year.
We are looking for local volunteers to work alongside us. No horticultural knowledge needed, just an interest in people, ability to work as part of a team and a desire to learn. Work will take place on Friday mornings 10 -12.
Chill Out Club Co-ordinator
The Chill Out Club is a social club for adults with learning disabilities. It is held each Monday evening in an Eastleigh town centre pub. It was set up 10 years ago to provide unstructured social time because adults with learning disabilities said they rarely had social time with friends. Club members enjoy chatting, listening to music, having a drink or a meal, dancing, playing pool or card games and generally chilling out.
We are always looking for volunteers to join the Club to mix with the members and to make friends. We also have a paid position on offer – Club Co-ordinator. Professional or personal experience of supporting people with learning disabilities is essential for this role.
The Club Co-ordinator is the person who ensures that club night runs smoothly, that people who attend are signed in and that they are supported in whatever they wish to do during the evening. The Club Co-ordinator is also responsible for line managing the club helper and volunteers, dealing with any problems, monitoring safety issues and reporting on progress within the Club. This role is for two hours every Monday.
For further details about this position, contact Michel Bonnel, Development Officer on 023 80483471 or email email@example.com
Eastleigh and Borough MENCAP is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our friendly Committee.
Do you have a particular flair for fundraising? Or could you help us to keep our accounts up to date? Even if you only have an hour or so to spare each month, your contribution would be much appreciated.
As well as our main Committee, we also have a social group, responsible for organising our social functions throughout the year. If that's more to your liking, then please do get in touch.
We are currently looking for support for the following roles...
Interested? Then please give Elaine Fish a call on 02380 275475, or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Message from our Chair, Elaine Fish...
This year some grants that support our work have been withdrawn.
We have had to find money elsewhere, we have been holding coin collections at Waitrose, Asda and Tesco, which have generated some much needed funds for our projects and services.
Committee members and our development officer have given up their time to take shifts outside the supermarkets, and I am grateful to them for doing so.
We will run coin collections on a regular basis to raise funds for the Society, but we need more volunteers to join us.
Can you help? Would you be prepared join a rota for future collections?
Each “shift” would be no longer than 2 hours at a supermarket in the Eastleigh borough or Romsey area and all you would have to do is to be friendly and welcoming to any shoppers who wanted to donate. You could do just one collection or join us more regularly: it is your choice!
We need more volunteers so that we can have two people per “shift”. Please do get in touch with Michelle if you want to join in. (02380 483471)
Thank you. Elaine Fish (Chair of Eastleigh Borough & Romsey MENCAP)
