Mayor Making - A Special Honour...

We are proud to announce that your society has been chosen by the new Mayor of Eastleigh, Councillor Darshan Mann to be one of three charities benefiting from his Charities Appeal this year May 2019 - May 2020.

We hope that all our members, friends and supporters get involved in enjoying functions, volunteering and raising funds. This really is a win-win situation for us: more profile for people with learning disabilities being active members of their community and more funds for all three chosen charities.

The Volunteering Crew

The Volunteering Crew – JOIN US!

We are always looking for volunteers to help us with Coin Collections. We will be collecting donations throughout the spring, summer and early autumn outside ASDA, Waitrose, Tescos and Haskins Garden Centre.

Collecting is surprising fun! You get to stand with a friend, each holding a pot, some people give you their donation and might want a brief chat. Others do not! All you have to do is smile and say thank you. The funds raised will go towards the costs of our Clubs, so you are helping the work of our society. Contact Michelle if you would like to know the dates of our collections and to volunteer to join us.

Several new volunteers join us last year (2019) and they were so delighted with their experience, that we decided to establish a Volunteering crew. This is a list of people who can be contacted when there is a chance to volunteer at an event for us.

Volunteering for Mayor's Appeal

We have been delighted with the response last year from our members offering to help out with the Mayor’s Appeal events.

There are lots of opportunities, from holding collecting buckets at various cultural events (at the theatre or concert) to walking the Test Way or running one of the stalls for the Mayor’s Appeal.

Our members are showing that they are up for it! It is great to have your support during this special year. We want to make the most of this opportunity. Anyone else who would also like to help, please call the Office and leave their name and number.

The Crew's activities in 2019...

The Volunteering Crew have been doing an amazing job in raising money for the Mayor of Eastleigh’s Charities Appeal. Three volunteers worked on the Mayor of Eastleigh’s Charities Appeal stall selling sweets in rainbow coloured cones at EASTLEIGH PRIDE.

Our volunteers have been having a really good time...

Six volunteers did a bucket collection at Eastleigh Football Ground in September and saw the match against Hartlepool for free. (The score was 1 all.)

Also in September, the Crew represented us on a stall at Eastleigh Pride, and at the Pumpkin Festival stall in October. And the Lantern Parade and Christmas in Eastleigh!

In July we had five new volunteers on our stalls at the MELA. One new volunteer joined us at ASDA for a coin collection and two new volunteers did a bucket collection for the Mayors Appeal at the A&L Dance Academy Summer School (Christmas) Show.

The A&L Dance Show was possibly the most fabulous! We were given complimentary VIP seats, were welcomed by the organisers and the Mayor of Eastleigh.

The show itself was amazing and featured many professional dancers from “Strictly”. This was a total surprise and an added bonus. We would thoroughly recommend this annual event! Look out for it next year.

If you have some spare time and would like to do some fundraising or collecting money with us, why not join The Crew? Call our office to volunteer, leave your name and number and we will call you back!

We really value people who say YES to volunteering offers and then follow through to complete them! Carers and relatives are welcome to join too.

Eastleigh Mela 2019 Eastleigh Mela 2019

Eastleigh Mela, Sunday 21 July

We ran two stalls at the MELA this year, one for the Mayor’s Appeal with the game: Play Your Cards Right. Thanks to Abbie, Katherine, Matthew, Michael and Terry who helped to run the game. There were a surprising number of winners!

The other stall was our Society stall and we offered rainbow art activities for children and information about our work for anyone interested. Thanks to Elaine, Henry, Nasrin and Beverley who worked hard throughout the day.
