Our Gardening Club is for adults with learning disabilities who want to learn how to grow their own food, or who may have a real interest in and love of horticulture.
The sessions are an excellent opportunity to learn more about gardening and different plants, to work in a team, to meet new people and make friends, to do some physical work outside and to grow your own fresh food and flowers. We have several very dedicated members who are enjoying these benefits.

Our services are open to anyone with a learning disability who lives in the borough of Eastleigh or in Romsey.Our constitution limits the offer of our services to people with learning disabilities living in this geographical area. Much of our funding is raised locally for the benefit of local people with learning disabilities.

Growing raised beds!
In early October, we were fortunate to have a visit from a working party from Eastleigh Works to help out at the Gardening Club.
The working party split into two and carried out an amazing amount of work on the two allotments, leaving them almost unrecognisable! Rubbish was removed, weeds and dead plants dug out, soil turned over and our individual raised beds were repaired with new timber sides and enlarged to more than twice their size.
The allotments are now well prepared for next year and our members have more scope to grow the plants they select. With a larger raised bed, members can grow a wider selection of flowers, herbs and vegetables.
We are very grateful to the team from Network Rail for their hard work and enthusiasm. What a difference half a day (of hard work) can make!

Gardening Club Open Morning
Saturday 17 August
Rosie Yeomans and many other guests attended our annual Open Morning at the Gardening Club.
Rosie gave a demonstration on planting french beans and spinach and also gave advice to green fingered guests.
Refreshments were fabulous as usual and we are grateful to everyone who donated plants for our Plant Sale and helped out with competitions, sales etc.
Our raised beds - not just for vegetables!
Many people think that allotments are just for growing vegetables but that's not always the case, some members grow herbs and flowers.
This raised bed was planted up in the Autumn by one of our members and is looking at it's best now. The Swiss Chard sown last summer has over-wintered well.
As it's the start of the season, some of our members have already been busy preparing for the new season by weeding and tidying.
The gardeners meet twice a week and we are always looking for volunteers who might want to be involved. If that sounds like you, call us!
Allotment News - transformation
May 2018 - Allotment Transformation
The transformation of our second allotment is continuing with the help of the Community Pay Back team and support from Terry and Maria.
Maria and the entire team have been working very hard.

With spring just around the corner, we have lots of exciting work about to begin.
We will be working on a new project for our second allotment this year. The project is to enable wheelchair users access to the allotment. This will involve levelling the ground and making a new pathway and patio area. We are grateful to Community Payback volunteers for their offer to help us out. They have skilled workers coming in to do a lot of the heavy work for us soon.

2015 Pumpkin Triumph
Members of the Gardening Club were proud to show off the pumpkin they grew last year. Although we were very pleased with it, weighing in at 56 lbs, it was easily beaten by other pumpkins from West End Gardening & Allotment Association members whose pumpkins weighed over 100lbs!
2014 New Polytunnel!
The Gardening Club members are delighted with their new polytunnel which was purchased with a grant from the Hedge End, West End and Botley Local Area Committee. Thank you for this great donation, it not only means we can bring on tender plants inside but members also have somewhere to shelter, should it rain. Thanks also to West End Parish groundsmen team who helped put the tunnel up, in less than perfect weather!
The polytunnel has been equipped with two made to measure tables, which have been manufactured for us by the Minstead Training Project.
