Active Citizens

What Is Active Citizens?

Active Citizens is a weekly group which focuses on learning disability issues and how people with learning disabilities can better integrate into the community and work for the common good.

Part of the remit is also to educate the community at large to help them to understand the key issues and build better relationships.Together, the Active Citizens Club has worked with local authorities and councils to develop awareness and understanding of learning disabilities in the community including being involved with setting up the Safer Places Scheme in Eastleigh and the promotion of safety in the community. As well as working on several projects throughout the year, the club has an exciting programme of guest speakers, visits and topics of interest.

Upcoming Events

We will be working with ‘a space’ arts over a period of 5 to 6 weeks to deliver a series of creative workshops with the aim of giving the members of Active Citizens an opportunity to express their thoughts on issues that affect them whilst giving them the opportunity to develop their creative skills and develop new ones.
This project has been generously sponsored by The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation

Past Events

The Mayor of Eastleigh visited Active Citizens in March. After the visit the mayor said “I really enjoyed meeting everyone, it was one of the most enjoyable mornings that I have experienced during my time as Mayor. They had some great questions and should be very proud of their contribution to the Community.”

A visit to Eastleigh Museum where Active Citizens met Danny who assists at the Museum. The group had a very engaging talk about how Eastleigh was formed, the railways and the local people.
